GUIDEBOOKS TO CD-ROM PROJECT
All CGS guidebooks are available as downloadable Adobe Acrobat pdf files. All of the older guidebooks were typed and formatted as the poor quality of duplication did not allow scanning and OCR. Most of the large maps accompanying some guidebooks are now available as tif downloads in grayscale or bitmap mode. Most tif files are very large and require a long time to download. The bitmap ones can be opened with your browser, but the grayscale ones are best viewed with an image processor such as Photoshop. The tif maps are suitable to print at full original size with a DesignJet or similar plotter. All map files are available in Acrobat (pdf) format. The Acrobat files are smaller than the tif. Some can be printed at 8.5 x 11, others will have to be reduced in the Print command to fit 8.5 x 11 paper.
NOTE: Some guidebooks are available in both print and screen resolution. Downloads are faster in screen resolution.
Because many of the texts have been retyped and reformatted, the paginations of many guidebook versions presented here differ from those of the originals. Persons who cite pages or figures from a guidebook as seen on the CGS website should specifically refer to the version on the CGS website. The following guidebooks have Acrobat files (pdf) furnished by the authors or scanned directly to pdf and are the same as the original: 1979, 1981 and 1989 (scanned and converted directly to pdf), 1994, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007.
If you can't open a file, email me your problem and I will try and fix.
